Free wifi downtown
Downtown Lethbridge BRZ and the City of Lethbridge jointly announced the first stage of a project to provide free public wireless access to the Internet in the entire downtown area.
According to Alderman Jeff Carlson, currently access is only available in Galt Gardens and around the Downtown Lethbridge BRZ office. Additional locations will be made available in the near future.
In the 2010 year-end report presented to City Council by the Heart of the City Revitalization Committee, possible future locations could be along 5 Avenue South at 5 and 7 Streets, 3 Street at 2 and 4 Avenues, 5 Street at 1 and 2 Avenues, and 3 Avenue and 7 Street. The report also outlined the cost of the project would be over $3000.
Nerds on Site, the company hired to install the wifi, reports phase two will include two large malls, an 8-story office tower, two museums, and 7 small businesses.
London Drugs, Boston Pizza, and Cheesecake Cafe already offer free wireless.
On July 28, Nerds on Site installed a wireless access point in Galt Gardens and had received authorization from Downtown BRZ to provide wireless coverage throughout the entire park.
