Commenting policy
Lethbridge News values freedom of expression. Likewise we value intelligent discourse that informs from all sides of an issue. Since our founding, we have struggled to find a balance between these two. Originally, we have allowed unfettered comments on our stories. Due to reader concerns, we implemented a rating system to help readers self-censor comments. This has not gone far enough. As a team, we feel it is important we do more.
Below is the commenting policy that will govern any comment moderation we perform. Comments should be free from:
- Profanity
- Racism
- Threats/Violence
- Blatant disrespect (such as name calling) for writers or commenters
Any comments containing content from the above list is subject to editing or deletion. Continued abuse of the commenting policy can result in being banned from commenting.
We have implemented a reporting link beside each comment. If you come across a comment you consider violates one of the policy items above, report it. A moderator will review the comment and decide whether to leave it, edit it, or delete it.
If our readers keep the discussion civil, respectful, and intelligent, there will be no need for any of the Lethbridge News volunteers to moderate comments.
